C'era grande attesa per le nomination all' 89° edizione degli Academy Awards, quei premi Oscar che ogni anno fanno sognare il mondo e palpitare gli addetti ai lavori: annunciate per la prima volta via streaming (e non con una cerimonia ad hoc) hanno rivelato ben poche sorprese, mentre l'Italia può dirsi comunque soddisfatta.
Infatti, nonostante non ci siano film italiani nel novero dei 5 titoli stranieri candidati all'Oscar, 'Fuocoammare' di Gianfranco Rosi è in lizza per il miglior documentario e due italiani, Alessandro Bertolazzi e Giorgio Gregoriani, sono candidati all'Oscar per il make up di Suicide Squad.
Per il resto, ben poche sorprese: il boom di La la land, regia di Damien Chazelle con Ryan Gosling e Emma Stone, con 14 nomination, era stato annunciato e ricorda i fasti del Titanic di James Cameron, che poi portò a casa 11 statuette. Tutti si aspettavano anche Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Casey Affleck, Denzel Washington e Ryan Gosling in lizza come migliori attori protagonisti, così come Viola Davis, Michelle Williams e Nicole Kidman fra le attrici non protagoniste.
Tra i grandi esclusi, incomprensibilmente, la bravissima Amy Adams, che con la sua interpretazione in Arrival sembrava essersi guadagnata -almeno- una nomination come miglior attrice, ma anche Sully di Clint Eastwood, amato dal pubblico e ignorato dall'Academy (solo una nomination tecnica, per il miglior montaggio del sonoro). Porta a casa pochissimo anche Silence di Martin Scorsese, solo una nomination alla miglior fotografia.
